Description of the hike

Set off on a three-day journey through one of the Pyrenees’ best-kept secrets. The route of The Fifth Lake winds along ancient shepherd paths, linking remote villages, high plateaus, and wild valleys as the landscape shifts day by day.

It crosses the regions of Pallars Jussà, Pallars Sobirà and l'Alta Ribagorça, and allows you to contemplate landscapes of enormous beauty, such as Pla de Corts, Vall Fosca, Vall de Manyanet and Lake Montcortés.

Each stage unveils a new story: from the panoramic ridges of the “Sleeping Giant” to the mystical Serraspina crest, where local legends still linger in the air. You’ll cross silent forests, open pastures, and timeless stone villages that preserve the soul of the mountains.

As you advance, the scenery grows more dramatic—hidden valleys, historic paths, and sweeping views over the Vall Fosca and beyond. And then, in the final stage, the reward reveals itself: Lake Montcortès, “the Fifth Lake," appearing like a secret jewel after days of anticipation. A route where every step is a discovery—and the journey itself is the true destination.
