Hike description

This route begins in Baro, a small town divided into two parts, as the national highway separates the two population centers. The region's river, the Noguera Pallaresa, surrounds one of the parts and provides a suspension bridge through which we can access it on foot and observe the flow of the river. Depending on the season, we can more easily observe the Pyrenean trout that live in this river.

From here, you take a path heading south, following the course of the river and crossing riverside forests with alders, willows, and poplars. It is a shady and pleasant stretch, ideal for enjoying the natural landscape and the sound of the water.

Nature begins to surround us and... the route begins!

Thanks to our donkey guides, you will discover where the most animals in the area live, as you pass through the fields where cows, sheeps, and even goats graze, you will likely witness how the two species of animals greet each other with their respective sounds.

Next, you will arrive at this small hermitage called Arboló, one of the oldest documented places in the region. Next to the current romanesque hermitage stood a castle (Castro Erbolone), which is mentioned in a document from the year 817.

It is an emblematic place in Pallars Sobirà, closely linked to local tradition where, during the summer, Aplecs* are celebrated (the 'aplec' was a religious and festive gathering that was held outdoors around a sanctuary or a place with some emblem or religious meaning ).

Some women of the region, carry the name of this sanctuary.

After admiring the views and having a small snack, the route must continue!

You will follow the path until you reach the town of Gerri de la Sal, which, as the name already indicates, is famous for its production and distribution of salt. You can visit the salt flats with a guide or at your own pace. And it doesn't end here ;Gerri de la Sal hides, on the other side of the river, the monastery of Santa María, a beautiful space to visit and travel back in time among its columns and gardens.

To finish the route, you can swim in the river or dip your feet in the water and rest with the sound of the Noguera Pallaresa riverbed.

This route offers an enriching experience that combines nature, history , and culture, in addition to being perfect for a quiet walk, suitable for little adventurers.
